Margaret River is undoubtedly home to Australia’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon, with Howard Park among the region’s leading makers. Howard Park’s ‘Miamup’ Cabernet Sauvignon is made from grapes grown on several vineyards throughout Margaret River, mainly in the Wilyabrup sub region. These vineyards are selected for their ability to capture ripe fruit flavours, supple tannins and the distinctive perfume of Margaret River Cabernet.
This 2020 Howard Park Miamup Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most impressive releases yet of this wine; a product of an ideal (warm and dry) growing season in Margaret River. Aromatic with lovely lifted blackcurrant, olive and oak spice notes, the palate is generously flavoured with loads of blackberry, red fruits and cocoa flavours. Some quality French oak and earthy spice add complexity, with a long balanced finish. A Margaret River that has loads of appeal in the short-to-medium term, with an RRP of $30, this offers excellent value drinking at this limited time discounted price.
“95 Points. A medium-bodied red with blackcurrant, blackberry, crushed stone and rosemary character. Creamy and polished tannins. Juicy and fresh. Lots of freshness and minty, dark fruit flavors at the end.”- James Suckling, Top 100 Value Wines of 2022, jamessuckling.com.
“94/100. Goodness, sometimes you just need the boxes ticked. Black tea, blackberry and cassis with a waft of eucalypt. A little briny black olive sea spray and some turned earth (from some of the many cows in Margs). Proper cedary, serious cooking chocolate oak and some richness of being. Neatly in the slot of expectation: Bright/Black fruit tempered by ripe tannins with a juicy coda. Very good balance of freshness and light. Leave the bottle, please. $30. 14.5% alc.”- Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com.
“Want a pretty classic Margaret River Cab for $30? Say hello to the Howard Park Miamup Cabernet Sauvignon 2020. Proper regional aromatics here – bay leaf and eucalypt meet dark berry cedar and lead pencil. Classic lines on the palate, too – grippy, powdercoat style full mouth Cab tannins, some vaguely charry dark berries filling in the holes. Really substantial! Maybe a bit wooden and tannic, but man, it feels throaty and regional. Sh*tloads of Margaret River charisma for $30. Best drinking: now and for ten years easy. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14.5%, $30. Would I buy it? Worth a glass or two.”- Andrew Graham, https://ozwinereview.com.
“You are invaded with varietal Cabernet immediately thanks to punchy aromas of blackcurrant and black olive with a subtle floral oyster shell minerality. The palate is plush and concentrated yet with a driving core to take it effortlessly to a long finish. A final lift of sage bush and bay leaf completes a tidy wine. 92 Points. $30. Drink: 2021- 2031”- Ray Jordan, winepilot.com.
